On July 13, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko took to social media to congratulate Anne Waiguru on her marriage to Kamotho Waiganjo.

Waiguru and her husband held their traditional wedding at Kiamugumo Primary school in Kirinyaga county.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, and Kalonzo Musyoka were among the invitees.

However, Sonko's congratulatory message took an unexpected turn when he suggested that Waiguru might be pregnant and would deliver her baby at Pumwani Hospital.

He wrote, 'Before the honeymoon begins, let me take this earliest opportunity on behalf of my family and the great people of Nairobi to Congratulate my colleague from Kirinyaga H.E @anne.waiguru for getting married to Wakili Waiganjo. May the Lord bless your marriage. May you have a safe delivery on your bundle of joy on the way. You are welcome to enjoy the state of the art maternity facilities at Pumwani hospital where the 1st Lady of Nairobi is also set to deliver there in a couple of months to come.'

He also added that Waiguru would deliver free at the refurbished Pumwani hospital.

Reactions from Kenyans have been mixed, with some praising Sonko's sense of humor and others criticizing his comments as insensitive.
