On July 14, 2019, the Catholic Church, Nakuru Diocese, made a significant contribution to the education of children in Pokot region by donating 3 million shillings through an initiative dubbed 'Education Initiative by the Catholic Church.'

The initiative aims to address the low standards of education in the region, which have been linked to the prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Speaking at a fundraiser in Barpelo High School, Tiaty Sub County, Bishop Maurice Muhatia emphasized the potential of education to drive development and address other pressing issues, such as cattle rustling, which is rampant in the area.

Local leaders, including Tirioko Ward Member of County Assembly, Sam Lokales, and Tiaty Member of Parliament, William Kamket, expressed their support for the program, highlighting its potential to reduce insecurity in the region.

According to Kamket, if well implemented, the initiative could lead to a significant decrease in insecurity over the next decade, as more children access education and are less likely to engage in cattle rustling.
