On July 12, 2019, the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) warned suspended Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi against interfering with the smooth running of the University of Nairobi.

Addressing the media at the University of Nairobi main campus, UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga accused Prof Mbithi of using university staff members, students, and lecturers to disrupt the current acting Vice Chancellor Isaac Mbeche.

‘‘Let them be at peace at the University of Nairobi... I want to impress the students not to be misused by forces who are hell-bent to destroy the University of Nairobi, let students know their role, let them study, graduate, and go home.’’ Wasonga stated.

UASU Chairman Prof Muga K'Olale echoed similar sentiments, asking Prof Mbithi to concentrate on his court case and not interfere with the institution's smooth running.

‘‘Whoever is concerned has gone to court, and that is his right. We will allow him to enjoy his right coupled with leave, but we will not allow him to interfere when we have embarked on the path to restore sanity and good governance in the University of Nairobi.’’ K'Olale said.
