On July 13, 2019, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen made headlines after declaring himself the senator for Baringo County.

Speaking at the funeral of Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren, Murkomen criticized his colleague Gideon Moi for being absent from parliamentary sessions.

According to Murkomen, Moi's frequent absences have hindered the progress of the Baringo people, who he has been serving as their senator for a long time.

'I wish the people of Baringo would support me, I have been serving them for a long time because every time I come here, I always find my colleague from Baringo sympathetic to our cause and also when we are in the Senate, he is always absent,' Murkomen said.

Murkomen also accused Moi of prioritizing his presidential ambitions over the needs of the Baringo people.

He urged Moi to put the interests of the Baringo people first before considering his presidential ambitions in 2022.

Murkomen believes that Moi's leadership style would not be effective in leading the country.
