On July 13, 2019, Kenya's national men's rugby team, Simbas, secured a fifth consecutive Elgon Cup title with a 29-21 aggregate result, defeating Uganda 16-5 in the return leg at the Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala.
Simbas' Jacob Ojee was the standout player, scoring two penalties and an unconverted try to help Kenya clinch the title.
Uganda's Philip Wokorach missed a penalty opportunity mid-way through the first half, while Ivan Magomu and Adrian Kasito combined to score the game's opening try for Uganda.
Impala Saracens' Billy Omondi drew the sides level with a five-pointer, but Jacob Ojee's penalty gave Kenya an 8-5 lead at the interval.
Meanwhile, the national women's 15s team, Lionesses, staged a magnificent display to beat their Ugandan counterparts 35-5, eventually settling for a 79-18 aggregate win.
With the 2021 World Cup qualifiers approaching, the Lionesses' performance in the two-legged Elgon Cup suggests they are ripe for the showpiece.
