Simona Halep, a 27-year-old Romanian tennis player, made history by winning her first Wimbledon title and second Grand Slam on July 13, 2019.

She defeated American tennis legend Serena Williams in the women's Wimbledon final in straight sets, marking a significant victory for the Romanian.

Williams, who was the first mother to reach the Wimbledon final since Australian Evonne Goolagong, was caught off-guard by Halep's brilliance, admitting she was 'a little bit of deer in the headlights' during the match.

Williams' loss to Halep was her second Grand Slam final defeat in a row, following her loss to Angelique Kerber in 2018.

Despite the loss, Williams praised Halep's exceptional play, saying 'she literally played out of her mind! Congratulations Simona.'

With her victory, Halep took home a prize of KSh 300 million, cementing her place as one of the top tennis players in the world.
