Conjestina Achieng, a former world boxing champion, has reportedly relapsed into substance abuse after a two-week break from rehab.

According to Boniface Ndirangu, the executive director at Eden House Rehabilitation Center, Conje was only allowed a two-week break from the center, where she was admitted late last year.

‘It’s been about two weeks since we allowed her to go home, and I think she should be back any minute. She went home with the sister. And at the time, she was stable,’ Ndirangu said.

However, a recent visit to Conje’s village in Yala, Siaya County, revealed a disturbing scene. Conje was found drinking booze at 7am, and later turned violent at the mention of her name.

Conje’s relapse has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the rehab program and the challenges of reintegrating former addicts into society.
