On July 13, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru exchanged her vows with Kamotho Waiganjo in a colorful Kikuyu ceremony held at Kiamugumo Primary School.

The ceremony, a significant cultural event in Kikuyu tradition, was attended by thousands of guests, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Opposition leader Raila Odinga, and other high-profile politicians.

At the heart of the ceremony was the 'cutting of the shoulder', a central point in the Kikuyu tradition where the groom cuts a piece of meat from a roast goat while the bride holds it.

Waiganjo cut the meat as Waiguru held it, and after he finished, the bride continued to hold the piece, while the groom cut another piece and fed her, then fed himself.

Among the notable guests were at least 30 Members of Parliament, Cabinet and principal secretaries, and woman representatives, including Florence Mutua, Gladys Wanga, and Sabina Chege.

Others in attendance included Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, Transport CS James Macharia, Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina, Siaya's James Orengo, Public Service Chief Administrative Secretary Rachel Shebesh, Nairobi politician Beatrice Elachi, and Gender Commission member Priscilla Nyokabi.
