Genk, the reigning Belgian football champions, has made a significant signing ahead of the new season by acquiring Ianis Hagi, the talented 20-year-old son of Romanian football legend Gheorghe Hagi.
On July 13, 2019, Genk announced that Hagi had signed a five-year deal with the club, which will keep him at Genk until 2024.
Although this is Hagi's second stint outside of Romania, having previously played for Fiorentina in Italy, he returns to Europe after helping Romania reach the semi-finals of the European under-21 Championship in Italy last month.
As a senior player, Hagi has also earned caps for the Romanian national team.
Genk will compete in the Champions League this season, securing automatic entry into the group stage.
