On July 13, 2019, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to investigate the teachers' medical scheme, which they claimed was shrouded in fraud.

Narok County KUPPET executive Secretary Charles Ngeno alleged that teachers were being turned away from hospitals due to claims that they had exhausted their medical scheme funds, even before using them.

Speaking at the opening of a laboratory at Ilkerin Secondary in Narok South, Ngeno called for a thorough probe into the medical scheme, which should include auditing.

He cited a disturbing case where a male teacher was told he had exhausted his medical cover funds after settling his maternity bill.

Area MP Korei Lemein also weighed in, calling for the closure of bars near schools, citing their negative impact on learning and education standards in the area.
