On July 10, a heinous crime shook the quiet village of Omobondo in Kenyenya Sub-County, Kisii County. Nine-year-old Diana Kerubo and four-year-old Stephanie Kerubo Atuti were brutally murdered, sending shockwaves through the community.
Following public outrage, four suspects - David Omwenga, Timothy Aroni, Gilbert Nyabuto, and Evans Nyabuto - were arrested and arraigned in Ogembo Law Courts on Friday. Although they were not charged, the prosecution sought and obtained permission to detain them for 14 more days to complete investigations.
The police claimed to have recovered vital evidence, including Ksh. 23,020 allegedly stolen from the guardian of the deceased. The Chief Prosecutor stated that the police had not recorded statements from the suspects and needed more time to complete the investigations before charging them.
Resident Magistrate Gloria Barasa granted the prosecution's request, allowing the suspects to be detained for further investigation.
