On July 12, 2019, a magistrate court in Nairobi issued a warrant of arrest against rugby player Alex Olaba for failing to appear in court for the second time for judgement.
Olaba and his colleague Frank Wanyama are facing charges of gang rape they allegedly committed in turns, with the alleged incident occurring in February 2018 at Highrise Estate in Nairobi county.
According to reports, the judgement was initially set for Thursday, July 11, but Olaba failed to show up in court, forcing the court to postpone the ruling to Friday, July 12.
On the rescheduled date, Wanyama appeared in court, but Olaba failed to appear, compelling Justice Martha Mutuku to issue a warrant of arrest against the player.
The two players, who play for Kenya Harlequins, have been excluded from the national team since the matter was taken to court.
