Geoffrey Kamworor and Beatrice Chepkoech Shine at National Police Athletics Championships

On July 12, 2019, at Kasarani Stadium, Geoffrey Kamworor and Beatrice Chepkoech stole the show at the National Police Athletics Championships, showcasing their impressive skills and dominating their respective events.

Geoffrey Kamworor, a three-time half marathon champion, won the men's 10000m finals with a time of 27:50.65, leaving his opponents in the dust. Josephat Bett came in second with a time of 28:40.58, while Joseph Kitum finished third with a time of 28:40.74.

Beatrice Chepkoech, the World 3000m steeplechase record holder, also made a statement by winning the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:58.34. Caroline Tuigong finished second with a time of 10:16.28, while Lilian Chebii came in third with a time of 10:16.18.

Other notable winners included 2015 World steeplechase Champion Hyvin Kiyeng, who won the women's 5000m finals with a time of 15:35.4, and Bethwell Birgen, who won the men's 1500m final with a time of 3:41.0.

Geoffrey Kamworor expressed his confidence in his abilities, stating, 'I didn't get much trouble here today, the level of competition was a bit low, that's why I won easily. But I'm sure National Championships will be very competitive, so I will go home and focus on that.'

Beatrice Chepkoech also shared her thoughts, saying, 'I had to make a tough choice because police Championships was coinciding with Diamond League where I was due to run 3000m. My focus is purely on World Championships in Doha, for now, I'm just building on my speed endurance.'

With their impressive performances, Kamworor and Chepkoech have set the stage for the National Championships, which will take place from August 21-23 at Kasarani Stadium.
