Kenya Airways CEO Sebastian Mikosz's announcement to exit the airline by the end of the year has sparked pressure from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) for him to leave sooner.
According to KAWU Secretary General Moss Ndiema, Mikosz's continued stay at the airline poses a threat to the national carrier's stability.
“Employees have no faith in Mikosz….he is the source of anxiety and negative energy in the airline with employees not knowing what to expect,” Ndiema said.
The union is calling for a transparent hiring process and the appointment of a Kenyan to take over as CEO, citing the need for someone with the country's and airline's best interests at heart.
Kenya Airways had previously proposed taking over operations of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, but the plan was rejected by parliament.
