On July 12, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded in Migwani Township, Kitui County, when Beatrice Kange'the, a county official, allegedly stabbed herself in the abdomen in an attempted suicide.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 8am while Kange'the was with her daughter at a rented house. The daughter alerted neighbors, who in turn called the police.
Migwani Sub location assistant chief, Jeffrey Nzailo, stated that Kange'the was rushed to Migwani Sub County Hospital after being found sticking the knife deeper into her chest.
A mason who arrived at the scene first reported that Kange'the was unable to talk but was stretching her hand and trying to plunge the knife deeper into her body.
The incident left many in shock, particularly given that Kange'the had shown no signs of depression.
Migwani police boss Daniel Mumasaba confirmed the incident but referred further inquiries to Deputy County Commissioner Hezron Koech, who had accompanied the injured woman to the hospital.
