On July 12, 2019, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i spoke at the funeral of CS Joe Mucheru's grandmother in Nyeri County, where he addressed claims of a Cabinet split.
He maintained that the Cabinet Secretaries 'enjoy a working relationship,' contradicting allegations of a rift within the government.
'You may have heard that we are not working together in the Cabinet but don't listen to anyone who has time to waste,' Dr. Matiang'i said.
Transport CS James Macharia echoed Dr. Matiang'i's sentiments, stating that meetings between Cabinet Secretaries and their deputies would continue.
According to him, these meetings are meant to spur development and are not abnormal for government officials.
Leaders from across the political divide had recently urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to reconstitute his Cabinet following the fracas over an alleged assassination letter.
Earlier this month, three Cabinet Secretaries were summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters over the letter, which alleged a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
It has since been revealed that the letter was fake and had been authored at a cyber cafe in Nairobi's Lang'ata estate and shared on the Tanga tanga WhatsApp group.
State House Director of Digital Strategy Dennis Itumbi was later arraigned in court over links to the letter and released on Ksh. 100,000 cash bail.
Other leaders present at the funeral included PSs Karanja Kibicho (Interior) and Nicholas Muraguri (Lands), Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and Kieni MP Kanini Kega.
