On July 11, 2019, Kilifi North Sub-County Police Commander Nguta Lewa confirmed the arrest of a boy accused of attempting to defile two sisters in Bofa area.
The alleged incident occurred when the boy, who was known to the family, asked for permission to take the girls for a walk. A caretaker spotted him undressing the older girl, prompting the police to intervene.
According to Lewa, the police recovered evidence and took the girls to hospital, where a doctor confirmed that there was no penetration.
The police boss accused parents of not protecting their children as they should, citing a rise in cases of underage boys engaging in crime.
As part of efforts to prevent such incidents, the police are working with the local administration to educate parents and keep the boys from crime.
Just a week prior, a 30-year-old man had defiled a two-year-old child in Chumani village in Kilifi, and was still on the run.
