Published on July 12, 2019, Kisumu County is on high alert following a possible anthrax outbreak after a man who consumed meat from a dead cow died on Thursday.
According to reports, six other individuals were admitted to the Kisumu County Hospital, exhibiting symptoms of the disease.
Kisumu County Director of Health, Dr. Dickens Onyango, confirmed the incident, which occurred in the Molem area of Nyamasaria.
A family reportedly slaughtered a sick cow and shared the meat with their neighbors, leading to the death of the man while he was receiving treatment.
Dr. Onyango further stated that health workers in the county are on high alert for patients showing signs and symptoms of anthrax.
They have been cautioned against making direct contact with bodily fluids from suspected patients.
Some of the symptoms include chest pains, vomiting, nausea, coughing, sores, and swelling.
