On July 12, 2019, Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma Owuor was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officers in Kisumu over allegations of involvement in organised economic crime.

According to the EACC, the arrest preceded an investigation into the irregular payment of 68 million shillings to M/S Wachira, Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.

Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi later freed the lawmaker on a three million shillings cash bail.

Aduma Owuor has denied charges of abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud Nairobi County Government of 10 million shillings allegedly paid in legal fees to a dead lawyer in 2011.
