On July 12, 2019, a tragic incident shook the residents of Bureti sub-county in Kericho after a woman allegedly stabbed her employer over a Ksh.150 debt.
The 22-year-old woman, identified as Jesca Chesang, works as a tea picker in Kaborus village, Cheborge location.
According to Kericho county police commander James Mugera, the woman had gone to her employer, 62-year-old Joseph Kimutai Sang, to demand her daily wages, which included Ksh.150 that she was allegedly owed.
When Mr. Sang failed to pay her, an argument ensued, and the woman allegedly stabbed him with a knife in the back and fled the scene.
Family members raised the alarm, and villagers rushed to the scene, only to find Mr. Sang with stab wounds. He was rushed to AIC Litein Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, and the body of the deceased has been moved to the hospital mortuary.
