Killeton Sacco Matatu Tout Arrested Over Passenger's Death

On July 6, 2019, a CCTV camera captured Florence Wanjiru, a 28-year-old woman, being pushed out of a moving matatu by a tout named John Ndwai in Kenya.

According to reports, Wanjiru was a passenger on the matatu, which was operated by Killeton Sacco. The tout, Ndwai, allegedly pushed her out of the vehicle, causing her to fall and suffer fatal injuries.

Wanjiru was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she later died. Her mother, Beatrice Wanjiru, has stated that her daughter was punched in the head during the incident.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has since arrested Ndwai and charged him with Wanjiru's murder. The agency has also revoked the driving license of Joseph Muasya, the driver of the matatu, and ordered all 114 matatus operated by Killeton Sacco to undergo re-inspection before being issued new licenses.

NTSA has stated that its investigation has revealed that Wanjiru's death was caused by the actions of Killeton Sacco employees.

Wanjiru's family received a call from a Good Samaritan who informed them that their loved one was involved in an accident. The Good Samaritan took Wanjiru to the hospital, where she later died.

NTSA has urged the public to report any incidents of reckless driving or road accidents to the authorities.
