On Sunday, March 7, 2022, a joint operation by security officials led by Energy Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and PS Kihalangwa resulted in the recovery of vandalized Kenya Power and Lighting Company materials worth over Ksh 75 million in Kimbo-Matangi area, Ruiru, Kiambu County.
A total of 15 vandalized transformers, assorted conductors, insulators, and other power equipment were recovered during the operation.
CS Juma described the vandalism as 'sabotage on the economy and to the aspiration of Government to connect more Kenyans to power,' with initial losses estimated at over Ksh 75 million.
She appealed to the public to assist in the effort by reporting any suspicious actions near or on energy infrastructure, and provided a toll-free number 991 for reporting such incidents.
