On July 12, 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, where a 9-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a 60-year-old man inside a packed Public Transport Vehicle.
The suspect, who was arrested at Kiganjo Police Station, is being held for questioning as authorities await the medical report and statements from other witnesses before proceeding to court.
According to eyewitnesses, the minor was traveling with her grandmother and sister from Gachika to Kiganjo along the Nyeri-Nanyuki highway when the incident occurred.
"He is being interrogated as we wait for the medical report and statements from other witnesses before he can go to court," Nyeri Central Sub County Police boss Paul Kuria said.
The suspect allegedly offered to hold the child on his lap, and it was during the short drive that he allegedly touched the minor inappropriately and groped her.
She collapsed when she alighted from the vehicle at Kiganjo, and the suspect was driven to Kiganjo Police Station where he was arrested.
The minor received treatment at Kiganjo Dispensary.
