On July 12, 2019, a woman named Emily revealed how she had a big, fun wedding costing more than Sh16.9m, which her parents paid for.

Emily, who was 29 years old at the time, explained how she let her parents foot the bill for her extravagant day, while she only contributed to a few little extras.

She said, "My parents paid for basically everything. I paid for a few little 'extras' like my bridesmaid's gifts, but I lost my job a month after getting engaged, so I didn't have an income for about half of the time I was wedding planning."

Emily's parents covered expenses for marriage prep, engagement photos, church-related costs, the ceremony, her dress, and the reception, including fireworks, which cost Sh514 million towards their honeymoon.

However, Emily's comments have been met with criticism, with some people branding the cost of her wedding "sinful" and others saying that they could have used that sum of money to buy a house.
