On July 12, 2019, police in Embu made a significant arrest, seizing fake banknotes worth Sh100,000.

According to Embu North Sub County Commander Godfrey Kere, the three suspects were apprehended following a tip-off from members of the public in Manyatta market.

The suspects allegedly planned to deceive residents unfamiliar with the new banknotes, which were unveiled during the Madaraka Day celebrations.

The three suspects are being held at Manyatta Police Station and will be arraigned in court after police complete their investigations.

Earlier, a taxi driver in Moyale narrowly escaped arrest after attempting to deposit fake banknotes at an M-Pesa shop, receiving Sh 3,000 from clients he had taken to Ethiopia.
