Published on July 12, 2019, Gor Mahia, the reigning Kenyan Premier League champions, has released four players in a bid to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
The quartet, comprising goalkeeper Shaban Odhoji, defender Pascal Ogweno, Ugandan forward Erisa Ssekisambu, and midfielder Cercidy Okeyo, struggled to break into the first team under coach Hassan Oktay last season.
According to Gor Mahia's Chief Executive Officer, Lordvick Aduda, the players were released on the recommendation of the technical bench.
The club has since moved to replace the departing players, signing six new recruits, including Denis Oalo, Tobias Otieno, Ronack Elvis, Dickson Ambundo, Curtis Wekesa, and David Mapigano. However, Wekesa failed to travel with the team to Rwanda for the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
Aduda hinted that the club is still in the market for fresh talent, stating, "The window is not yet closed, anything is possible," in an interview with Nation Sport.
Meanwhile, the club has confirmed the departure of star striker Jacques Tuyisenge to Angolan giants Petro Atletico de Luanda in a deal reportedly worth Sh15 million.
Tuyisenge, who joined Gor Mahia in 2016 from Rwandan side Police FC, scored 64 goals in 129 appearances during his three-year stint at the club, making him one of the great players in the club's history.
