On July 12, 2019, a brazen raid on the Shekinah Pentecostal Church in Makongeni left one person dead and several others injured.

The suspected thugs stormed the church at 5am, attacking worshipers and the pastor before making off with an unknown amount of money and church instruments.

According to eyewitness Edward Ouko, the deceased was stabbed by the gang outside the church as they tried to escape.

‘‘It was 5am, these thugs stormed the church and stabbed worshipers who were in kesha before killing this guy who was just passing nearby…they stabbed him before escaping as church guards tried to pursue them.’’ Ouko told Ghetto Radio News.

The injured worshipers and pastor are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals.

Area residents have called on the police to speed up the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

‘‘We have a police station in Makongeni, they should tighten night patrols to prevent robberies in this area, it's a shame to see thugs attack a congregation stab them and even make away with the valuables.’’ They said.
