On July 12, 2019, Algeria's victory in the Africa Cup of Nations sparked celebrations in Paris, but the festivities turned violent when two stores near the Champs-Elysees were looted.
According to an AFP journalist, a group of people smashed their way into a motorcycle shop and another store, taking helmets, gloves, and even motorcycles.
Police responded by using tear gas to disperse the crowds, and at least one person was arrested.
Football fans traditionally gather at the Champs-Elysees to celebrate key football victories, but on this occasion, the celebrations took a dark turn.
Tear gas was also used to control crowds of Algerian supporters who had gathered at the Old Port in Marseille to mark the win.
