On March 2, 2022, Absa Bank Kenya announced its ambitious plan to plant and grow 10,000 fruit trees in schools this year.
The bank's initiative, dubbed Birdies for Good, aims to contribute Sh1,200 for planting and growing fruit trees for every birdie (golf score) scored at the 2022 Kenya Magical Open at Muthaiga Golf Club from March 3 to March 6.
With an expected contribution of about Sh6 million, Absa Bank Kenya is set to make a significant impact on the country's tree cover and national nutrition.
According to Jane Waiyaki, Head of Sustainability at Absa Bank Kenya, planting fruit trees will help improve the country's tree cover and boost national nutrition.
Francis Kariuki, Head of Conservancy at Kenya Forest Services, added that tree planting boosts the livelihoods of children.
