Published on July 12, 2019, reports emerged that President Uhuru had ordered Mt. Kenya leaders to cancel meetings at La Mada hotel. However, Trade CS Peter Munya has denied these claims, stating that the meetings will continue.
According to Munya, the meetings have intensified and have been devolved to counties and sub-counties. He noted that the team, which includes CSs Joe Mucheru, Sicily Kariuki, and James Macharia, is properly coordinated and working towards speeding up development in the Mt. Kenya region.
"It is a total lie and fabrication to say we have stopped our meetings," Munya said in a statement. "In fact, we were to meet yesterday (Wednesday) but we had other engagements. We are to meet again next week."
When asked about the alleged plot to assassinate DP Ruto, Munya stated that the DCI had yet to update them on the progress of investigations. He noted that the legal process requires a formal complaint to be recorded on the Occurrence Book before any action can be taken.
"Until that is done, we read more politics on the matter than serious fear of crime taking place," Munya said. "If somebody felt the group wanted to kill or injure him, that is a serious matter he should go and make a statement. So far, the claims are not official."
