A massive fire erupted at a gas-fired power station just outside Moscow on July 11, 2019, killing a worker and injuring 14 others.
The blaze, which was visible from the capital, occurred at Power Station No. 27, approximately 20 kilometers from Moscow, around 11:00 am local time.
According to Russia's emergencies ministry, a female employee was unable to escape the fire in time, resulting in her death.
Fourteen people received medical treatment, with one being hospitalized.
The fire was eventually brought under control after authorities switched off the gas supply, and investigators were working to determine the cause of the blaze.
Initial reports suggested that a leak from a high-pressure gas pipe may have sparked the fire, with a small explosion heard before the fire broke out.
The power station, built at the end of the Soviet era and opened in 1996, supplies part of Moscow and the surrounding region with electricity and central heating.
Despite the fire, the energy ministry assured that electricity supplies to the public would not be affected, and the fire did not damage generation equipment at the station.
