On July 11, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu took legal action to prevent his prosecution after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) conducted a search at his homes and office in June.
According to a petition filed by Mr. Waititu, the search and seizure at his residences in Thome and Runda exceeded the scope of the search warrant issued on May 22.
He argued that the information obtained during the search should not be used as evidence against him and requested the court to suspend the proceedings or investigations being conducted by the EACC.
Mr. Waititu also sought the return of his logbooks, title deeds, reports, and other items seized during the search.
The EACC had alleged that three companies owned by Mr. Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, and their daughter Monica Njeri received kickbacks for irregularly awarded road tenders worth Sh588 million.
The companies in question are Saika Two Estate Developers, Bienvenue Delta Hotel, and Connex Logistics Africa.
