On July 11, 2019, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced that it had recovered assets worth Sh2.7 billion in the last four months from corrupt individuals through alternative dispute resolution.

EACC chief executive Twalib Mbarak attributed the significant improvement in asset recovery to the commission's proactive investigations aimed at averting loss of public resources.

According to Mr Mbarak, the commission mainly relies on information received from citizens and the media to undertake investigations.

He noted that the EACC had averted the loss of Sh5.8 billion through proactive investigations.

Some of the assets recovered include land belonging to the University of Nairobi that had been grabbed and allocated to a private company called Aberdares Engineering Contractors Limited, as well as 140 acres of land in Naivasha.
