Laikipia West MP Patrick Mariru is facing a land dispute in Nyahururu, with the Lusogwa Cooperative Society claiming ownership of the land where he built a Chief's Camp.
The society, which has been in existence for years, claims that the MP did not consult them before constructing the camp on the two-acre piece of land in the Lusogwa area.
According to Chairman Michael Ndungu, the society has been trying to reach out to the MP, but their efforts have been futile.
‘We are shocked that the MP who we have elected did not engage us even in public participation before putting up the structure,' Ndungu said.
The society has also accused the MP of impunity, claiming that the structure was constructed illegally.
On Wednesday, members of the society protested, warning that they would bring down the camp if they are not compensated.
The land in question is also home to a cattle dip used by the society's members, most of whom are farmers.
MP Mariru has denied the allegations, insisting that the land belongs to the county.
However, the society claims that they have lost over 30 acres of land to grabbers.
