Published on July 11, 2019, Manchester United's pursuit of Harry Maguire remains a top priority for the club.
According to sources close to the negotiations, Manchester United has moved ahead of Manchester City in the chase for the England defender by increasing their offer to Sh9 billion, up from the initial Sh8.4 billion both clubs had indicated they would be willing to pay last month.
Leicester City, however, has expressed reluctance to sell Maguire at this price, particularly after witnessing Manchester United's Sh6.5 billion acquisition of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, whom they deem inferior to Maguire in terms of international quality and experience.
Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester's owner, would need to personally approve any deal for Maguire, who still has four years left on his contract and is considered a vital asset in their squad.
Manchester United has already signed two homegrown players, Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and has also made inquiries about signing Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina.
