On July 10, 2019, Somalia carried out the executions of three men convicted of participating in the 2017 bombing of a Mogadishu hotel that killed 18 people.
The men were accused of being members of the insurgent group al Shabaab and were among the attackers in the bombing of the Nasahablod Two Hotel, which resulted in 18 deaths and 47 injuries.
They were executed by gunshot, according to Somalia's state news agency.
Al Shabaab, an Islamist militant group, was ejected from Mogadishu in 2011 and has since been driven from most of its other strongholds, but remains a threat, frequently carrying out bombings in Somalia and neighboring Kenya.
