On February 18, 2022, a Kenyan court handed down a two-year prison sentence to Dorothy Wanjiru Ndungu for her involvement in a land fraud scheme.
According to the court's ruling, Ndungu was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud after obtaining Sh4.5 million from Pauline Mwikali Kieleko. The money was promised in exchange for a plot in Runda, which Ndungu claimed was worth Sh30 million.
However, the court found that the money was not deposited into Ndungu's account, but rather into a lawyer's account. Ndungu was also found guilty of impersonating Margaret Wangari Ngugi with the intent to defraud.
Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku gave Ndungu the option to pay a fine of Sh300,000 or serve the two-year prison sentence. Ndungu was acquitted of charges related to forging a certificate of title due to lack of evidence.
