On February 16, 2022, Liverpool took a significant step towards the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League last-16 first leg at the San Siro.

The match saw Inter Milan dominate the first half, with Hakan Calhanoglu coming close to scoring when he fired against the crossbar in the penalty area.

However, Liverpool's fortunes changed in the second half, with coach Juergen Klopp making strategic substitutions that ultimately paid off. Roberto Firmino scored the opening goal in the 75th minute, flicking home from a corner to break the deadlock.

With Inter Milan's resistance broken, the errors started to creep in, and Mohamed Salah capitalized on one such mistake to seal the win with seven minutes remaining.

The victory puts the 2019 Champions League winners in a commanding position ahead of the return leg on March 8, 2022, at Anfield.
