Published on July 11, 2019, the Monaco Diamond League meeting is the ninth stop of the Diamond League series, and it brings together the world's top athletes in various events.
One of the most anticipated events is the men's 1500m race, which will feature Kenya's Timothy Cheruiyot, the world silver medalist. Cheruiyot has been in top form this season, taking almost a second off the Lausanne meeting record at the previous Diamond League meeting in Switzerland, clocking 3:28.77, the fastest recorded this season.
Cheruiyot will face stiff competition from Norwegian brothers Filip and 18-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen, European champions at this distance in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The latter clocked 3:30.16 in Lausanne, a pending world U20 record.
Other top athletes in the field include Ethiopia's Samuel Tefera, who set a world indoor record of 3:31.39 earlier this year, Djibouti's Ayanleh Souleiman, who has run 3:30.79 this season, and Ronald Musagala of Uganda, who has clocked 3:31.33.
The women's mile race will feature world record breakers as Kenya's 3000m steeplechase specialist Beatrice Chepkoech takes on the current mile race world record holder Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba, who set the time of 3min 50.07 on this track four years ago.
Other notable events at the meeting include the men's 800m race, where Jonathan Kitilit, Ferguson Rotich, and Michael Saruni will battle Botswana's sensation Nijel Amos, and the 3000m steeplechase Men's race, which will feature Kenya's contingent including Nicholas Bett, Leonard Bett, Abraham Kibiwot, Benjamin Kigen, Lawrence Kipsang, and Barnabas Kipyego.
