On July 10, 2019, an 83-year-old granny was arrested in Nyeri for being in possession of 600 grammes of marijuana.
Lydia Mumbi Ndirangu appeared before Nyeri Resident Magistrate Nelly Kariuki and pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to the police, Lydia had been buying bhang regularly in Nyeri and transporting it to Tetu constituency, where her son allegedly rolls and sells it to users.
The granny had wrapped the bhang in banana leaves and carried it in her basket.
She will remain in custody until July 15, 2019, when she will appear in court.
This is the second drug trafficking case in Nyeri in a period of two months.
