Nigerians Celebrate as Super Eagles Advance to Afcon Semis

On July 10, 2019, hundreds of fans flooded Nigerian streets to celebrate the Super Eagles' 2-1 victory over South Africa's Bafana Bafana in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter finals, held in Egypt.

The match saw Nigeria eliminate South Africa from the tournament and advance to the semi-finals, with goals from Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong in each half.

President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated the team, expressing hope that they would lift the cup. In a statement, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the mission of having 'the trophy in our hands for the fourth time is almost accomplished for the high-flying Eagles.'

President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, praised the team's victory, saying it reinforced the confidence of Nigerians in their ability to win. He urged the team to remain focused and disciplined.

Football fans praised the team's performance, with Kayode Agboola saying, 'It's a case of senior brother beating his younger brother and I am happy Nigeria lived up to expectation.'

Samson Amoo commended the coach, Gernot Rohr, and his technical team for their strategies, saying they had built confidence in Nigerians that the Eagles could win the cup.
