On July 11, 2019, Nigeria secured a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals with a thrilling 2-1 victory over South Africa.

Samuel Chukwueze opened the scoring for Nigeria, controlling a cross from Alex Iwobi before scoring at the second attempt.

However, South Africa's Bongani Zungu equalized with a header, initially ruled out for offside, but later confirmed by VAR after it was revealed that a free-kick had hit a Nigerian player on the way to him.

But in a dramatic turn of events, Nigeria's Udinese defender William Troost-Ekong bundled home from close range late on to win the game.

His finish was into an empty net after goalkeeper Ronwen Williams completely missed Moses Simon's corner.

Nigeria will now face either Ivory Coast or Algeria in the second semifinal on Sunday at 20:00 BST.
