A recent survey by Ipsos Kenya has shed light on the most important development projects implemented by county governments since the start of devolution in 2013. Conducted between June 24th and 28th, the survey found that roads, health, and education are the top priorities for Kenyans.
According to the survey, 56% of respondents cited the construction of roads as the most important project implemented, followed by health (12%), education (10%), and water (10%). In contrast, only 1% of respondents considered agriculture, security, and electricity as important projects.
Ipsos Director Hilda Kiritu noted that most counties view these sectors as key to attracting investors. 'If you look further, you will note that county residents feel that devolution has led to improvement of infrastructure, especially rural roads,' she said.
The survey, commissioned by the Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA), was carried out in Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Mombasa, and Kisumu. The study aimed to evaluate levels of public participation, ease of doing business, and human development indicators in the counties.
