On August 8, 2017, Martin Kamotho, aka Githeri Man, made headlines for his unique approach to voting, dressed in a brown suit and carrying githeri in a nylon paper to satisfy his hunger pangs. The photo went viral, and he trended for days, with top brands showering him with gifts and vacations.

However, beneath the surface, Kamotho was struggling with a different kind of addiction. He was often spotted inebriated, prompting concerns that he needed rehabilitation. In 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta (HSC) honored him, but it was a short-lived victory.

With the help of Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba and the President, Kamotho was signed up for rehab at Mama Care Rehabilitation Centre in Wangunyu Primary School, Kiambu County. He spent nine months there, and upon completion, President Uhuru awarded him a certificate alongside other recovering alcoholics.

But, in a tragic turn of events, Kamotho relapsed, and photos of him totally drunk and laying on a trolley in the middle of a street in Kayole, where he lives, have surfaced, leaving Kenyans shocked.
