Laikipia East is set to witness a fierce battle for the parliamentary seat, with former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Cate Waruguru and her predecessor Mwangi Kiunjuri vying for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and The Service Party (TSP) tickets, respectively.
Waruguru, who has been Laikipia Woman Representative since 2013, is facing off against Kiunjuri, who served as the area MP from 1997 to 2013.
The campaigns have taken a personal turn, with both candidates trading barbs and allegations of immorality.
Kiunjuri recently described Waruguru as a 'husband snatcher,' cautioning residents against voting a 'bad role model' for girls and young women.
Waruguru fired back, telling Kiunjuri to stop meddling in her personal life and warning him against taking a route that would lead to her exposing him 'badly.'
Waruguru has been embroiled in recent love scandals, including a 2022 incident where a woman accused her of eloping with her husband.
She has also accused Kiunjuri of being a 'rotten' individual with a history of visiting Koinange Street, a notorious red-light district in Kenya.
Waruguru further alleged that Kiunjuri has fathered multiple children with different women and abandoned them, and that he has nothing to show for his 15 years as MP.
With the August General Election just around the corner, this battle is set to be an epic showdown.
