Nigeria vs South Africa: Super Eagles Reach AFCON Semis ¶
Published on July 11, 2019
Samuel Chukwueze scored the first goal in the 27th minute, giving Nigeria a 1-0 lead at halftime. Bongani Zungu equalized for South Africa, but William Troost-Ekong sealed the win for Nigeria with a goal in the 89th minute.
The match started slowly, with both teams taking time to build confidence. However, Nigeria's pressure eventually paid off, and Chukwueze's goal gave the Super Eagles a crucial lead.
At the restart, Oghenekaro Etebo's free kick rattled the crossbar, and Chukwueze again created a scoring chance, but his cross went wide. Despite South Africa's growing confidence, Nigeria held on to their lead until Troost-Ekong's late goal secured the win.
With this victory, Nigeria advances to the AFCON semi-finals, while South Africa's campaign comes to an end.
