On 30th June, Samuel Kathuri, a local fisherman from Kathagariri location in Manyatta Sub-county, Embu County, ventured into the Mt. Kenya forest and never returned. His body was discovered two weeks later, on Wednesday morning, at the banks of River Nyamindi.
According to Embu North OCPD Geoffrey Kere, a team of villagers who had gone into the forest for a search found Kathuri's decomposed body along the riverbank at around 8am. The police were notified, and officers from Kibugu police post, along with crime personnel, visited the scene and processed it.
‘Officers were able to identify the body of the man known to carry out fishing in various rivers within the forest,’ Mr. Kere said.
Mr. Kere urged the public to be vigilant while fishing or working in the forest, emphasizing the importance of informing close friends or family members of their whereabouts before proceeding with their routines.
The body of the deceased was taken to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
