On July 10, 2019, Nakumatt creditors were told to expect the results of an audit ordered by the High Court in September, marking a delay in the process.
Nakumatt's administrator, Peter Kahi, revealed that accounting and audit firm Parker Randall, which was tasked with auditing Nakumatt Holding's books, had missed the June 30 deadline.
According to Kahi, Parker Randall had less than six weeks to prepare the retailer's books for the years 2017 to 2019, but the firm has sought an extension.
High Court had ordered an audit of Nakumatt's accounts by June, but the process has been delayed.
“Parker Randall were doing the audits for three years; 2017, 2018 & 2019. They have not finalised the audits and have sought an extension,” said Mr Kahi.
While Nakumatt's administrator pointed out the absence of a legal requirement to publish the accounts, court orders such as the deadline issued by Justice Mary Kasongo in March are meant to be complied with.
