Published on July 10, 2019, AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has dismissed reports that the club is in limbo and cannot be involved in transfer activities after the Registrar of Sports Rose Wasike declined to recognize the group elected last month.
Wasike had asked Leopards to provide a three-year list of genuine members from at least 24 counties as provided for in the Sports Act. The club's executive was also directed to dissolve the electoral board following pleas from members that it was not properly constituted.
However, a section of members went ahead and elected Shikanda as chairman on June 23, sparking controversy.
"The elections were done and they were free and fair, there is just a group of idle people from the former office who are confusing the Registrar, but we have our response which we will be delivering on Thursday," Shikanda said.
Shikanda also vowed to expose individuals who have been looting the club for years and make them account for every cent lost.
Despite the controversy, Shikanda assured fans that the playing unit will be traveling to Mumias for a two-week pre-season training after completing the remaining transfer activities.
"We are aiming to finish our transfer activities by the end of this week, we have already signed three players and we are also in talks to sign three more foreign players, and one local so Ingwe fans should not panic at all because all is under control," he said.
The 12-time Kenyan Premier League champions will kick off their new season campaign with an away match against Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium on September 1.
