Kenya's top triathletes are set to compete in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Zone Five championship in Rwanda this weekend.
The event, which brings together six nations, including Kenya, Egypt, Burundi, Cameroon, Uganda, and Rwanda, will feature a continuous race over various distances in the three major disciplines of swimming, cycling, and running.
The Kenyan team, selected based on merit after the Mombasa Open International Triathlon games held on July 7, includes William Nanjero and Ted Mwatha from Nairobi, Abdalla Mansoor and Soud Hassan from Mombasa, and Jossete Njeri, Vivian Hiller, and Anisa Said from Mombasa and Nairobi respectively.
According to KTA secretary Harison Mwangi, the aim of using the All Africa Games bound team was to expose them and enhance their fitness prior to the games, which is important since ITU is set to use the event for the ranking and development of triathlon sport in the country.
Meanwhile, France's Martin Montbarbon and Stephanie Fernandez won the men and women Mombasa Open International Triathlon games events with Montbarbon clocking 1:13.26 seconds and Fernandez clocking 1:45.00 seconds for the women's title.
